XTALBioStructures, Inc. is a contract research organization (CRO) that provides discovery research and intellectual property development services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
Our principle service is derived from the biochemical and biophysical methods required for protein purification and X-ray crystallography. Our services also include the characterization of pharmaceutical molecules binding to the protein targets through the use of enzymology, thermal shift analysis, isothermal titration calorimetry, surface plasmon resonance, and other biochemical/biophysical methods to assess stability and solubility.
Additionally, we offer cell-based assays and corresponding biological assessment of changes in the cellular environment due to drug/protein treatments. Evaluation methods are varied and customizable to client needs, but have included extracellular flux, Western blots, protein array, antibody array, flow cytometry, and proteomics.

X-Ray Crystallographer: Industrial Postdoc/Scientist/Senior Scientist
Ph.D. scientist with a background in biochemistry, biophysics, and/or X-ray crystallography is needed to provide laboratory research services in a contract research organization environment. Must have a proven track record and strong technical background in X-ray crystallography, with experience in the areas molecular biology, protein production, biophysical characterization, and/or crystallization. Experience with synchrotron data collection and standard computational programs is needed.
A collaborative spirit with strong interpersonal skills is critical to provide clients with our unique value adding approach. Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential. Must have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to work cooperatively with others. High standards in scientific efforts, data analysis, and documentation will be required. A transparent and engaging interaction with others is also critical as part of our team-based environment.
How to Apply
Protein Biochemist, BS/MS
We are seeking to immediately hire a protein biochemist for a 2-3 month contract position, with the possibility for conversion to a permanent position.
Requirements:
- A thorough understanding and solid hands-on experience with protein purification (ion-exchange, size exclusion, affinity chromatography).
- Some experience in protein characterization and assay development.
- Purification from E. coli, insect cell, and mammalian cells.
- Some molecular biology experience/background.
- Desire to work within a highly interactive team and to learn and grow.
- Positive attitude and good work habits.
- Good analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to design and implement experiments and prepare a short research reports.
Education/Experience
- Requires a BS or MS in life sciences with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a commercial pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment.
